Lake Powell Days 1-2

I am finally done getting my pictures downloaded from Lake Powell. We now shoot all of our photos in Raw and then convert them over to Jpeg format. It gives us a better result because we can manipulate them before we save them. The down fall is that is takes so much more time. I am about ready to just give it up and be happy with pictures that have a less than perfect white balance. Anyways back to Lake Powell......

This is how we had the boats and things set up behind the house boat. We would use the tube and the molecule tube to shuttle back and forth to the boats. We called it our own personal wipe out course. We had some great wipeouts. I was not the only one with cuts and bruises to prove it.


This was our lunch after the tour to the ruins. Jeff, Taylor, and I stayed on the boat while the others hiked up to the ruins. We have seen it many times and Taylor was asleep so we let the Scotts and the older kids go.

Our first night at camp we had a huge thunderstorm roll in. We got to see first hand how serious a flash flood can be. We had waterfalls and rivers washing down a lot of the canyons in minutes. We were in a safe place, but the rain forced us to sleep inside the first night. It was very disappointing! We were glad to get to see the cool flash flood though.

Taylor loved sticking her toes in the water. It didn't matter if it was off the house boat or the motor boat. The second we were going she was asking. She was really good about wearing her life jacket and I didn't worry about her jumping in. She was scared to jump in. I only coaxed her into the water a few times. Another thing that was easy about Taylor was naps. We would just go for a boat ride and she would be out in about 5 minutes.

This picture shows Kaylee at a grouchy moment. Kaylee gave us some trouble at night time. She was overtired and a little bit freaked out with sleeping on the roof. Jeff and I were very miffed with her by her actions! We were rethinking bringing her on our trip. By the end of the week though she was much better.

All in all it was a great trip. It definitely was not our most relaxing Lake Powell trip and we hardly played games at all. The memories that we have with our kids was well worth the extra effort and headache.
